Team Leader

BioScript International was set up by Dr. Ruth Willmott in 1998, with the aim of assisting non-native English-speaking scientists to be able to compete better on the international level. She and her team are dedicated to helping scientists optimize their use of the English language and improve their skills for effective scientific communication.

In 1990, she graduated from Durham University, UK, with a B.Sc. (Hons.) in molecular biology and biochemistry. Four years later, she received her Ph.D. from Bristol University, UK, in plant molecular biology. Her first post-doctoral position was at the Max Planck Institute for Plant Breeding (MPIZ) in Cologne, Germany, as a Marie Curie Fellow. Later, she worked at the RWTH Aachen, Germany, on an EU-funded project in collaboration with Unilever. In 1999, R.W. qualified as an English communication trainer and has worked at some of the most prestigious adult education centres in Europe.

BioScript International’s editorial support service offers expertise for text enhancement and English-language editing of research papers and reviews, responses to the reviewers, grant applications, yearly reports etc. R.W. and her team have worked with over 50 research departments and institutes throughout Europe. Additionally, she is the external scientific text consultant for the MPIZ as well as a language editor for Protist (Elsevier) and Marine Ecology (Inter-Research).

By combining her research experience and communication training, R.W. has devised an effective programme of workshops to develop and perfect the prerequisite research communication skills of scientific writing and presentation techniqiue. In addition to training researchers and academics, she has also coached managers from Smith Kline Beecham, Henkel Schwarzkopf, Swiss Air Magazine and Lindt & Sprüngli, and the managing director board of Team Steffanhagen marketing consultancy in report writing and presentation technique.

Dr. Ruth Willmott is a member of the European Association of Science Editors (EASE), the English-speaking Union (ESU) and the Marie Curie Fellowship Association (MCFA).
